2018 weekly classes

Registration

    • New students are welcome anytime!
    • Classes are for adults/teens, unless specified for kids.
    • To register for the class of your choice: select the tuition amount next to each class listing and click the register button which will take you to paypal.
    • Some classes require pre-registration for the full session, and some may be paid for with cash, check, or class card on a drop-in basis.
    • Classes requiring pre-registration need a minimum of six students in order to run.
    • Class cards purchased online will be given to students in class.
    • 5 class card: $85 /  10 class card: $160 /  single class: $18 if paid online or $20 if paid in person
    • 10-class cards are valid for 4 months; 5-class cards are valid for 2 months from date of purchase. No refunds will be given, however, the class card may be transferred to another student if necessary.
    • A class card is like a mini membership. It may be used for any of the classes listed, in either studio location.

  • Sean-nós Dance for Kids! in Hyde Park

    This class will introduce young children to the joyful rhythms of Irish music and sean-nós (old style) dance. Students will also learn the elementary foot positions and beginner sequences of step dancing. The class will include games and exercises that encourage kids to move freely and creatively, connecting their bodies to the energetic flow of traditional Irish dance music. Taught by Ranóg Townsend, for children ages 4-6. Pre-registration of $60 is required for the four-week session.

    Ranóg Townsend is an All Ireland Champion sean-nós dancer who hails from the heart of Sliabh Luachra in Lixnaw, Co.Kerry. She is currently studying a BA in Irish Music and Dance at the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick. Ranóg has taught and performed at various festivals, most recently the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Scotland and Scoil Acla in Achill, Co.Mayo. She is living in Boston for a one semester internship with Kieran Jordan Dance.

    Beginner 1 Irish Step Dance in Hyde Park

    This class will introduce adult beginners to the history, traditions, and techniques of Irish dance. Students will learn to recognize the timing and rhythm of Irish dance music (jigs, reels, and hornpipes), while learning to dance basic footwork and choreography for each type of tune. This class provides a fun and supportive community for anyone who has wanted to try Irish dance. Taught by Ranóg Townsend

    Please bring a notebook or recording device and light-weight sneakers or Irish dance soft shoes. NO STREET SHOES. Pre-registration of $60 is required for the 4-week session.

    Intermediate Sean-nós Dance in Cambridge

    Sean-nós (“old style”) Irish dance is a joyful expression of movement and sound. An improvised solo style, it includes footwork danced close-to-the-floor, a relaxed upper body, and a playful dialogue between the dance and the music. This class will focus on musicality, improvisation, building a repertoire of steps, and developing a confident personal style. Prior experience is required. Please bring a notebook or recording device and shoes with a smooth hard sole.

    Intermediate / Advanced Irish Step Dance in Cambridge

    For students with at least five years of step dancing experience. This class offers a lively and supportive atmosphere for improving stamina, musicality, clean footwork, and a confident performing presence in the traditional style. Students will learn group set and céilí dances, and intricate solo dances including jigs, reels, hornpipes, and solo sets, as well as original choreography. Please bring a notebook or recording device and Irish dance soft shoes and hard shoes.

    Intermediate Irish Dance: Traditional Sets in Hyde Park

    This class is designed for experienced step dancers who want to learn or review the traditional solo sets, like “St. Patrick’s Day,” “The Blackbird,” etc. We will dig in deep to focus on one dance at a time, looking at style, variations, technical details, and music choices for these traditional pieces of choreography. Please bring a notebook or recording device and shoes with a smooth hard sole.
