2020 weekly classes

Classes at Kieran Jordan Dance Studio are cancelled indefinitely, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. We are now offering online learning options.

  • Spring/Summer 2020

  • Online Learning During Coronavirus

The Kieran Jordan Dance Studio has been temporarily closed, since March 12th, 2020. I am teaching from home — with group classes and private lessons offered online.

For Group Classes, please scroll down to the next section.

Private lessons are available via Facetime, Messenger, or Zoom for 30-minute lessons. I will work with you one-on-one, or with up to three people at a time in your household. Please email me to schedule a time, and include information about your level of experience and style of dance.

Commissioned instructional videos can be sent to you via Youtube. Request a specific dance, and I will teach, record, upload, and send you a personal video lesson. Filming will be low-tech, on my phone. Please email me with your request.

Pricing is flexible. My usual private lesson rate is $75 per hour for an in-studio lesson. But I want everyone who wants to dance to have access to instruction, especially during this period of social isolation and sedentary hours of working from home. Please pay what you can afford, from the sliding scale in the drop-down menu.

    More options:

If you’re interested in detailed sean-nós dance instruction with professional audio/video quality, consider ordering my Musical Feet videos, which are available on DVD or as streaming/download videos. This is the best option for beginners.

Would you like an online PERFORMANCE of Irish traditional music or dance in your home? Musicians and dancers (including me) are offering 10-minute custom performances, sent to you via video link, while we are unable to perform in public. Visit Tune Supply.

Please note! I am performing and teaching old-style Irish step dancing and sean-nós. Both styles were traditionally danced in homes, in small spaces, with no hand-touching or partnering required! Continuing to dance while we are at home will provide stress relief, mindfulness, exercise, and fun, during this challenging time. It is not an equal substitute for dancing together in person. But hopefully we can find ways to make it work — to stay connected to our dancing, and to each other.

Dan Furey Sunday (online via Zoom)

Sunday afternoon gathering to dance through the old-style step dance repertoire of Dan Furey — as taught to us by our friend, master Irish musician and dancer Michael Tubridy.

This event takes place four times annually at the KJD Studio. This will be our first time holding the event on Zoom — this time, it’s FREE! There is no registration necessary.

We will be joined by musician Dan Accardi and members of the Dan Furey Dance Group from Ireland, and beyond!

For those brand new to using Zoom, I will start the meeting 15 minutes early to share a few basic tips.

Intermediate Irish Step Dancing / Trad Sets (online via Zoom)

We will continue our study of traditional sets, this time with the North Kerry Blackbird! I’ll be teaching a version I learned many years ago from dancers at the Siamsa Tire in Tralee. I learned it again more recently — along with some of you — from dancer Ranóg Townsend, who spent some time as an intern at KJD. This is an intermediate/advanced level dance.

Online classes are scheduled for Eastern Time. Register in advance (this is required), and then I will send the Zoom meeting code, password, and instructions to your email address. Instructions will be sent out the day before the class. The price is $50 for the 4-week class. To pay, choose Option 3 in the drop-down menu. This is 25% off my usual price per class. If you cannot afford $50 for any reason, just choose one of the lower options. Higher amounts are gratefully accepted too.

Beginner 2 / Intermediate Sean-nós Dance (online via Zoom)

In the spirit of summer festivals, we will study some of the traditional tunes that are commonly played for dancers in concert settings. Then we’ll create and improvise steps to complement those tunes. Previous sean-nós dance experience is recommended for this class.
