2019 weekly classes

Registration

    • New students are welcome anytime!
    • Classes are for adults/teens, unless specified for kids.
    • To register for the class of your choice: select the tuition amount next to each class listing and click the register button which will take you to paypal.
    • Some classes require pre-registration for the full session, and some may be paid for with cash, check, or class card on a drop-in basis.
    • Classes requiring pre-registration need a minimum of six students in order to run.
    • Class cards purchased online will be given to students in class.
    • 5 class card: $85 /  10 class card: $160 /  single class: $18 if paid online or $20 if paid in person
    • 10-class cards are valid for 4 months; 5-class cards are valid for 2 months from date of purchase. No refunds will be given, however, the class card may be transferred to another student if necessary.
    • A class card is like a mini membership. It may be used for any of the classes listed, in either studio location.

  • New! Beginner Sean-nós Dance in Hyde Park

    Sean-nós (“old style”) Irish dance is a joyful expression of movement and sound. An improvised solo style, it includes footwork danced close-to-the-floor, a relaxed upper body, and a playful dialogue between the dance and the music. In this fun and encouraging atmosphere, students will focus on learning basic rhythms, connecting the footwork to traditional Irish music, building a repertoire of steps, and developing a confident personal style. Basic set dancing and céilí dancing footwork will also be included. Please bring a notebook or recording device and shoes with a smooth hard sole.

    New! Hard Shoe Slip Jigs in Hyde Park

    In this special four-week class, dancer Rebecca McGowan will teach the hard shoe slip jigs made famous by Donnacha O Muineacháin and Celine Hession in the RTE series Come West Along the Road. Rebecca learned the steps from this video clip and has restaged this full dance in performance. A unique opportunity to learn this beautiful and intricate footwork!

    Intermediate Sean-nós Dance in Cambridge

    Sean-nós (“old style”) Irish dance is a joyful expression of movement and sound. An improvised solo style, it includes footwork danced close-to-the-floor, a relaxed upper body, and a playful dialogue between the dance and the music. This class will focus on musicality, improvisation, building a repertoire of steps, and developing a confident personal style. Set dancing figures and footwork will also be included. Prior experience is required. Please bring a notebook or recording device and shoes with a smooth hard sole.

    Intermediate / Advanced Irish Step Dance in Cambridge

    For students with at least five years of step dancing experience. This class offers a lively and supportive atmosphere for improving stamina, musicality, clean footwork, and a confident performing presence in the traditional style. Students will learn group set and céilí dances, and intricate solo dances including jigs, reels, hornpipes, and solo sets, as well as original choreography. Please bring a notebook or recording device and Irish dance soft shoes and hard shoes.

    Beginner 2 Irish Step Dance in Hyde Park

    This class will introduce beginners to the history, traditions, and techniques of Irish dance. Students will learn to recognize the timing and rhythm of Irish dance music (jigs, reels, and hornpipes), while learning to dance basic footwork and choreography for each type of tune. This class provides a fun and supportive community for continuing students and anyone who has wanted to try Irish dance. Please bring a notebook or recording device and light-weight sneakers or Irish dance soft shoes and hard-soled shoes.

    Intermediate Irish Dance: Traditional Sets in Hyde Park

    This class is designed for experienced step dancers who want to learn or review the traditional solo sets, like “St. Patrick’s Day,” “The Blackbird,” and many more. We will dig in deep to focus on one dance at a time, looking at style, variations, technical details, and music choices for these traditional pieces of choreography. Please bring a notebook or recording device and shoes with a smooth hard sole.

    Introduction to Dance: Ballet and Irish Step (for kids!) in Hyde Park

    This class introduces students to the fundamentals of both ballet and Irish step dance, with lots of room for creative expression. Students will learn foundations of dance, from pliés and barre exercises, to basic jigs and reels, giving them a firm base to continue ballet, Irish dance, or start a new style of dance! This class is inclusive, gender-neutral, body positive, and non-competitive.
