Boston College Irish Céilí

An evening of traditional Irish set and céilí dancing, with live music by Séamus Connolly, as well as BC students, faculty and friends. All dances will be taught and called by Kieran Jordan. No experience necessary. All are welcome!

Catskills Irish Arts Week Fall Series

Sean-nós and Old Style Step Dance Workshops with Kieran Jordan, along with concert performances with members of the music faculty.

An Evening with Guest Artist Michael Tubridy

A workshop in old-style step dancing, plus set dancing, and live music! Michael Tubridy, originally from Kilrush, Co. Clare, Ireland is renowned for his traditional Irish music on flute and concertina, and also for his unique repertoire of Irish step dances, with an elegant, understated style.

Re-jigged Festival: A Celebration of New Celtic Music and Dance

Sean-nós dance workshops and performance with Kieran Jordan and members of the Re-Jigged faculty. In addition, Kieran will be planning follow-up workshops in St. John, New Brunswick and on Prince Edward Island.

Kieran’s classes are non-competitive, and are designed for adults as well as teens (ages 14 and up). Advance registration is recommended, and for your convenience, payment can now be made on-line. Students may also attend on a drop-in basis where indicated.

Beginner Sean-nós Dance

4-week sessions

This class is an introduction to sean-nós “old style” Irish dance, for both new and returning students. Kieran will teach beginner movements and rhythms that will progress into popular steps found in Connemara sean-nós dancing. The class will also include the basic footwork and partnering used in set dancing. Please wear shoes with a smooth hard sole.

Continuing Sean-nós Dance

5-week sessions

Sean-nós (“old style”) Irish dance is a joyful expression of movement and sound. Considered to be one of the earliest forms of Irish dancing, sean-nós is an improvised solo style, which includes footwork danced close-to-the-floor, a relaxed upper body, and a playful dialogue between the dance and the music. This class will focus on timing, style, improvisation, and a repertoire of steps. Prior experience is recommended. Please wear shoes with a smooth hard sole.

Beginner Irish Dance

6-week sessions

For adult beginners, this class will introduce the basic footwork and technique of traditional Irish step dance. Students will learn soft shoe and hard shoe dances, including reels, jigs, and hornpipes, with a focus on alignment, placement, balance, strength, and musicality. Students will also learn to understand the structure and timing of traditional Irish music. No experience necessary! Please bring light sneakers or Irish dance soft shoes to the first class. Intermediate Irish Dance

6-week sessions

This class focuses on traditional Irish step dance technique, as well as group céilí dancing and original choreography. Each class will include a thorough warm-up and strengthening exercises. Students enrolling in this class must have at least 2 years of experience in soft and hard shoe dancing.

Kieran Jordan Dance Company Class – Intermediate / Advanced

5-week sessions

A class combining traditional and “old style” step dance technique, improvisation, and Kieran’s original choreography. Each class will include a thorough warm-up, alignment, and strengthening exercises influenced by Kieran’s studies in contemporary dance. Repertoire will be drawn from Kieran’s performance choreography and repertoire of steps. Students enrolling in this class should have intermediate/advanced level proficiency in soft and hard shoe Irish dancing or other forms of dance, along with creative spirits, and a willingness to try new things.
