Weekly Classes In the Boston Area
Location
Classes take place at Boston Percussive Dance (BPD) located inside Green Street Studios, 185 Green Street, Central Square, Cambridge, MA. The studio is T-accessible on the Red Line. Parking is available at meters, or one block away at the Green Street Garage ($1.50 per hour).
Registration
Kieran’s classes are non-competitive, and are designed for adults as well as teens (ages 14 and up). Advance registration is recommended, and for your convenience, payment can now be made on-line. Students may also attend on a drop-in basis where indicated.
Sean-nós Dance Master Class for Intermediate / Advanced Dancers
Monthly Workshops with Live Music
Sean-nós dance (“old style”) Irish dance is a joyful expression of movement and sound. Considered to be one of the earliest forms of Irish step dancing, sean-nós is an expressive solo style, which includes footwork danced close-to-the-floor, a relaxed upper body, and a playful dialogue between the dance and the music. These monthly workshops will focus on rhythm, technique, and a repertoire of steps, as well as improv exercises and interplay with live music. Please wear shoes with a smooth hard sole.

Beginner Sean-nós Dance
4-week session

Introduction to Irish Step Dance
5-week session
For the adult beginner who is brand new to Irish dance — no experience needed! Students will learn the basic footwork and positions of traditional Irish step dance, along with beginner level steps, and the structure and timing of Irish dance music. Please wear dance sneakers or Irish dance soft shoes. Taught by Hannah Pelton

Beginner 2 Irish Step Dance
5-week session
A soft shoe and hard shoe technique class for beginners. Students will learn traditional footwork, including reels, jigs, and hornpipes, with a focus on alignment, placement, strength, and musicality. Students will also learn to understand the terminology of Irish dances and the structure and timing of Irish music. Taught by Hannah Pelton

Intermediate Irish Dance
5-week session
This class focuses on traditional Irish step dance repertoire and technique, group céilí and set dancing, and Kieran’s original choreography. Each class will include a thorough warm-up and strengthening exercises designed for adult movers. Students enrolling in this class must have at least 2 years of experience in soft and hard shoe dancing.

Advanced Irish Dance
4-week session
This class focuses on traditional step dance technique and Kieran’s original choreography. Each class will include a thorough warm-up and strengthening exercises designed for adult movers. Improvisation and ideas from other forms of dance may be included. Students enrolling in this class should have advanced level proficiency in soft and hard shoe dancing, creative spirits, and a willingness to try new things. Teacher: TBD

Summer Irish Dance Intensive
Four nights in a row of Irish dance! Timing, technique, solo steps, and group dancing. All classes will be Intermediate level (a good challenge for beginners and a thorough review for advanced dancers).
